College of Music, Ningbo University

(Updated in October 2025)

The College of Music of Ningbo University separated from the former College of Arts in May 2015. It is an important base for cultivating applied and theoretical music talents in Zhejiang Province, with distinct school-running characteristics, and strives to become a model of aesthetic education for comprehensive universities with typical influence in the Yangtze River Delta Region.

The college currently has 1 undergraduate program in Musicology (National First-class Undergraduate Program Construction Site, the only A+ program at Ningbo University), 1 first-level discipline master's program in "Art Studies", and 1 professional master's degree program in "Music". It houses teaching, research and practice institutions including:

  • Vocal Music Teaching and Research Office

  • Piano Teaching and Research Office

  • Instrumental Music and Dance Teaching and Research Office

  • Theory and Composition Teaching and Research Office

  • Jiangnan Music Culture Research Center

  • Music Research Institute

  • Ningbo Gang Music Research Center

  • Public Music Teaching Practice Center

  • Art Practice Center

The college has 71 faculty and staff members, including 53 professional teachers (6 professors and 15 associate professors). Among them:

  • 36 teachers hold doctoral degrees

  • 1 recipient of provincial talent program

  • 3 recipients of municipal talent programs

  • 1 winner of the Ningbo May 1st Labor Medal

  • 1 leading and top-notch talent in Ningbo

There are nearly 500 full-time undergraduate and graduate students on campus.

In recent years, the college has won multiple honors:

  • Second Prize of National Teaching Achievement

  • 3 Second Prizes of the First National Excellent Textbooks

  • 5 National Excellent Courses

  • First Prize of Zhejiang Provincial Teaching Achievement

  • Second Prize of Zhejiang Provincial Basic Education Teaching Achievement

  • First Prize of the 2nd Zhejiang Provincial University Teachers' Teaching Innovation Competition

It has passed the Teacher Education Program Accreditation by the Ministry of Education. In 2024, its Musicology program ranked 5th among similar programs nationwide in the ShanghaiRanking (Soft Science).
