Musicology (Teacher Education) Major Introduction

Program Objectives

The Musicology (Teacher Education) major aims to cultivate high-quality applied talents who develop morally, intellectually, physically and aesthetically. These talents should master the basic theories, knowledge and skills of music education, and possess modern educational concepts, good cultural literacy, professional ethics, innovative awareness and practical ability.

Graduation Requirements

Graduates are required to:

  • Have strong political, ideological and moral qualities;

  • Possess certain foreign language and computer application skills;

  • Master basic teaching skills for nine-year compulsory education and fundamental principles of pedagogy, with basic teaching organization ability;

  • Grasp core knowledge, theories and skills of musicology;

  • Be proficient in basic methods of music literature retrieval and information inquiry, with initial ability to conduct teaching and scientific research;

  • Have awareness of lifelong learning, strong self-study ability and problem-solving skills.

Degree Awarded: Bachelor of Arts.

Core Courses

Key courses include Vocal Music, Piano, Solfeggio and Ear Training, Chorus and Conducting, Music Curriculum and Pedagogy, Secondary School Music Curriculum Standards, Music Teaching Research Methods and Training, History of Western Music, History of Chinese Music, Piano Improvisation Accompaniment, Musical Form and Work Analysis, Musicology Research and Academic Writing, etc.

Career Prospects

Graduates can pursue careers in teaching, performance, operation and management in primary/secondary schools, kindergartens, mass cultural systems, publishing, radio, film/television and cultural industries.

  • Competitions: The College Choir won gold awards at the 14th China Chorus Festival (2017) and the 5th National College Students’ Art Exhibition (2018); the Chinese Traditional Orchestra won first prizes at Zhejiang Provincial College Students’ Art Exhibition (2018, 2021).
